Boys' basketball bests Navarro, Boerne
By Matt Ward —
Well on their way toward their first District 27-3A championship, the Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ basketball team won their ninth game in a row last night, defeating Navarro on the road 77-51.
On Friday, the Billies ended Boerne’s 44-game district winning streak, defeating the Greyhounds at home 54-40.
With 18 second half points to lead FHS over Boerne, Austin Rodriguez was named the all-area boys’ basketball player of the week by the San Antonio Express-News.
The 24th ranked Billies will travel to Wimberley on Friday night before hosting Bandera on Tuesday. Tip-off in both contests is slated for 7 p.m.
With four games left to play, FHS leads the district standings at 6-0 and has clinched a postseason berth, with Boerne one game back at 5-1.
Bandera and Wimberley are tied for third place at 3-3, with Navarro in fifth at 1-5 and Canyon Lake at 0-6.
FHS 77, Navarro 51
After a slow start put the Billies down by five on the road, the FHS offense came out red hot in the second quarter, scoring 26 points on their way to a 77-51 road win at Navarro Tuesday.
Fredericksburg shot 10-20 from the three-point line on the night.
“It was a nice offensive explosion tonight, just a great job by all the guys,” FHS head coach Tim Kaman said. “Kyle Reeh had seven assists, (Mason) Maxcey scored 10 off the bench and Austin (Rodriguez) had six steals. (Wade) Shepherd did another nice job as our defensive stopper with (Clayton) Braden and (Brian) Watson controlling the paint.”
