Varsity boys win district opener
By Matt Ward —
Things have been going just the way head coach Tim Kaman wants them early in the District 27-3A schedule as his Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ basketball team notched a pair of wins to open loop play.
FHS defeated rival Wimberley 73-57 at home last night after holding off Navarro 62-50 Friday evening.
The Billies (19-7, 2-0 district) will head back on the road for the next week to face Bandera on Friday and Canyon Lake Tuesday. Both games are set to tip off at 7 p.m.
FHS 73, Wimberley 57
Dominant from the outset, the Billies held off a late Texans rally, defeating Wimberley at home 73-57 Tuesday evening.
Fredericksburg went 3-4 from the three-point line as part of an 11-0 run to open the game.
“They tried to run a triangle and two versus Austin (Rodriguez) and Clayton (Braden) and Wade (Shepherd, Brian (Watson) and Kyle (Reeh) really did a nice job of picking up the scoring slack early,” Kaman said. “They had to get out of that defense and then Austin and Clayton went to work.”
Rodriguez and Braden combined for 44 of the Billies’ 73 points in the contest, including a perfect 20-20 from the free throw line. Reeh also scored in double figures, notching 12 points in the victory.
“It was a great job defensively,” Kaman added. “We really flew around the court getting deflections and making them take quick shots. Brian Watson took two charges which really slowed their penetration to the basket.”
