FHS girls to open dirstrict play Friday
Fredericksburg High School varsity girls’ basketball team will be opening District 27-3A play on Friday, Jan. 3.
The Billies will be heading to Canyon Lake for a 7:30 p.m. game to open the first round of their district campaign.
District play continues on Tuesday, Jan. 7, when the Billies host Boerne in the FHS Gym in a 7 p.m. game.
Over the weekend, the FHS varsity girls played in the Lampasas Holiday Tournament on Friday and Saturday where they went 2-2, defeating Lampasas, 43-35, and Alhambra, 61-46, and falling to Godley, 47-40, and Belton 40-24.
“Holiday tournaments are all about getting the five- to six-day rust from the Christmas break out of our systems before district,” said Carrie Grona, head girls’ basketball coach.
She added, “We were so rusty the first day of the tournament.”

Godley 47 — FHS 40
Playing in the first round of the Lampasas Holiday Tournament on Friday, the FHS varsity girls came up short to Godley, 47-40.
“Godley is a solid, fundamental team that doesn’t make many mistakes and waits for you to make the mistakes,” Grona said.
“We just made too many,” she said. “We were always in the game, but didn’t have enough to push through.”
