Following a 36-28 home loss to LBJ High School of Johnson City on Friday, Dec. 20, the Heritage School girls’ varsity basketball team will take off for the holidays, not returning to hardwood action until the Lady Eagles travel to Castle Hills Baptist School in San Antonio on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The contest, which will open TAPPS 1A District 4 play for both schools, will tipoff at 6 p.m.

Eagles fall to Johnson City

Visiting Johnson City used a 16-point third quarter to overcome a four-point halftime deficit to defeat the Lady Eagles 36-28 in a game played Friday afternoon in the Fredericksburg First Baptist Church gymnasium.

Kami Jones led Heritage in scoring with 13 points, including six in the opening stanza. She and teammate Allie Metzger led in rebounds with seven apiece.

“The Lady Eagles played a very competitive game against a talented team from Johnson City,” said Heritage head coach Mike McKinnon. “The play of Allie Metzger in the post position was an asset to the team as the score remained very tight throughout most of the game.”

McKinnon also cited the play of other members of his team. “The defense of Claire Pedregon and Jamie Hoermann showed how disciplined we can be when it comes to playing a team of this caliber. The game was back-and-forth until post player Kami Jones left the game due to an injury in the second half at which point the momentum changed. The third quarter was rough but we bounced back in the fourth to make another run at Johnson City. We fell short, but we’re very proud of the girls and look forward to a great season when we start district in a couple of weeks.”
