Christmas Pyramid

TOWERING OVER all that step up to witness its spinning tiers, this 26-foot-tall pyramid draws attention from its spot on Marktplatz downtown. Made specifically for Fredericksburg by craftsmen in Germany, the wooden tower stands near the community’s 30-foot-tall Christmas tree and features scenes of everything from snowmen to shepherds on five levels of rotating vignettes. The pyramid pays homage to this city’s heritage and the German holiday tradition of displaying candle-powered tabletop carousels depicting angels or manger scenes. Other features of Marktplatz include a nativity, a Gingerbread Village and the ice skating rink, Eisbahn, which continues through Jan. 4. — Standard-Radio Post/Lisa Treiber-Walter
