Harper boys compete in Sonora tourney
By Danny Hirt —
After picking up a win against three losses in the past weekend’s Sonora basketball tournament, the Harper boys’ varsity team dropped a 64-40 decision at Blanco Monday evening.
The hardwood season continues Saturday when Harper plays Sonora in the AT&T Center in San Antonio, with tip-off time to be announced later.
Then, following a Christmas and New Year break, Harper will resume tournament action Jan. 3-4 in Comfort.
Blanco 64, Harper 40
A slow start, combined with deadly shooting by host Blanco spelled doom for Harper Monday night as the Longhorns suffered a 64-40 loss.
While Harper could net only six points in the first quarter, Blanco managed to score 18 of its own points. The hosts then bested the Longhorns in every remaining period to secure the win.
Brayden Hagendorf led Harper in scoring with 13 points, followed by Guy Stevenson with 12.
Stevenson also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds, while Gus Sagraves recorded six boards.
