Harper girls second in home tourney
By Danny Hirt —
Following a second place finish in its own basketball tournament, the Harper High School girls’ varsity basketball team earned another victory Tuesday evening, topping Leakey at home, 44-29.
Last night’s victory came on the heels of the Ladyhorns’ 51-48 loss to Leakey in the finals of Harper’s tournament last week.
Harper (10-1) is currently ranked in the 12th spot among Division I 1A schools in Texas, according to a recent poll by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
The Ladyhorns find themselves in another tournament situation this Thursday through Saturday when they travel to Sonora for three days of competition. They open play on Thursday when they face San Angelo Lakeview at 12 noon.
From there, Harper travels to Blanco on Tuesday night for a non-district game. The junior varsity teams will square off at 5 p.m., with the schools’ varsity squads doing battle shortly after that.
