FHS girls finish 2-2 at Marble Falls tourney

It has been a busy week for the Fredericksburg High School varsity girls’ basketball team.

The FHS varsity squad was in Marble Falls Thursday through Saturday for the American Bank of Texas Tournament, on the road to Liberty Hill on Monday night and back on the road to Kerrville on Tuesday night, Nov. 26, for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Playing Liberty Hill on Monday, the Billies came up short, 55-47.

At the tournament, the varsity girls went 2-2, defeating New Braunfels, 55-48, and Flour Bluff, 43-31, while falling to San Antonio O’Connor, 62-54, and Vista Ridge, 70-48.

After a short break for the Thanksgiving holidays, the FHS varsity squad will be on the road to Lago Vista on Tuesday, Dec. 3, for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Finding themselves down after the first half on Monday night, the FHS varsity girls were able to come within three with two minutes left in the game, but came up short to Liberty Hill, 55-47.

“We just dug ourselves into a hole that we tried very hard to get out of, but every time we would get close they would make a good play and stop our momentum,” said Carrie Grona, head girls basketball coach.

She said, “We played probably the worst first half of the season with 20 turnovers and 17 percent from the field.”
