Daily Update for Monday, Nov. 25

News

  • Gillespie County Commissioners are meeting this morning at 9 a.m. at the Gillespie County Courthouse. Commissioners are expected to hear from three rural fire departments (Harper, Tierra Linda and Doss) and will hear a proposal from Central Texas Electric Cooperative to furnish electricity to the new jail project. Commissioners will also receive a report on the jail project and consider approving changes from the design team.
  • It was a cold and wet weekend with temperatures dipping close to, or in some cases, below freezing. The rain gauge at the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post measured 1.13 inches this morning.
  • Swine validation for Gillespie County exhibitors is planned today from 3-6 p.m. at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
  • The Zonta Club of Fredericksburg is participating in the “Zonta Says No” campaign by hosting a program this evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Golden Hub. The public is invited to a self-defense presentation by Vickie Arnold. The club is also encouraging everyone to wear orange from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 as these represent the “16 Days of Activism”.
  • Readers of the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post will be getting their papers one day earlier this week when the newspaper is published on Tuesday. Along with all of the news, sports, photographs and advertisements will be the Standard-Radio Post's special "Holiday Gift Guide."

Sports

  • Playing in the area round of the UIL playoffs, the Fredericksburg High School varsity football team lost to Gonzales, 19-7, on Friday night in Cedar Park.
  • Fredericksburg High School girls' basketball teams are on the road tonight to play Liberty Hill. The freshmen play at 5 p.m., the JV at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. Over the weekend, the FHS varsity girls went 2-2 in the American Bank of Texas Tournament in Marble Falls.
  • The FHS boys' basketball teams are hosting Marble Falls tonight in the FHS Gym. The freshmen play at 5 p.m., the JV at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
  • The Fredericksburg Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls' basketball teams will be on the courts tonight. The seventh graders are playing at BT Wilson and the eighth graders will be at Peterson Middle School. The B games are at 5 p.m. and the A games at 6 p.m.
  • FMS seventh and eighth grade boys will be hosting Kerrville in the FMS Gym tonight. The B games are at 5 p.m. and the A games at 6 p.m.
  • Heritage School football defeated Brownwood Victory Life,  56-0, on Friday night at Cherokee High School in the TAPPS Division II quarterfinals.
  • St. Mary's basektball teams will be hosting St. Peter Price this evening starting at 4:30 p.m.
