Volleyball wins bi-district round over Somerset
By Matt Ward —
Although they were unable to defeat district foe Geronimo Navarro in a playoff seeding match Friday, the Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball team got a win when it mattered, defeating Somerset Tuesday night in the bi-district round at the Blossom Center of the Northside ISD in San Antonio.
The 26th-ranked Billies will face eighth-ranked Bellville in the area round Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Bastrop Cedar Creek High School.
“They are traditionally a very strong program and this year is no different,” FHS head coach Jason Roemer said. “They were the Wimberley’s of the late ’80s and early ’90’s, winning a couple of state championships and consistently being in the state tournament.”
“Coach Susan Brewer has been coaching in Bellville for 37 years and she’s a great coach whose kids will fight for every point,” he added. “It will be an honor to line up against them and battle right along with them.”
The winner of Thursday’s match will face the winner of fifth-ranked La Grange and 19th-ranked Geronimo Navarro Monday or Tuesday.
