Heritage volleyball falls in second round of playoffs
By Danny Hirt —
Heritage came close to winning its area round volleyball match Saturday against San Marcos Hill Country, but just not close enough as the Lady Eagles were ousted from the state TAPPS 1A playoff action in four games — 16-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-27.
The loss came on the heels of Heritage’s three-game victory at Waxahachie Preparatory in the bi-district round of post-season play.
Eagles fall at area
After trading wins in the first two contests (16-25 and 25-18), the Lady Eagles found the going tough as they dropped the final two games to San Marcos Hill Country by the narrowest of margins in Saturday’s TAPPS playoff road match — 23-25 and 25-27.
“This was a hard loss to see the Lady Eagles ending their season playing their best match ever!” said Carol Bell, Heritage head coach. “We had Hill Country on the run in matches three and four but errors at critical points provided them momentum as we struggled to consistently attack with precision.”
Bell praised the play of her team members, including senior captain Kami Jones. “Kami has shown not only the will to win, but the heart of a true champion. It has been a pleasure to coach her,” Bell said.
Jones led Heritage in kills with 16, while teammate Christina Harpold contributed 23 assists and 14 point serves.
