Harper runners advance to state

By Danny Hirt —

Both Harper High School cross country teams — girls and boys — will be represented in the UIL state championships slated for this Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The girls’ squad captured the top spot in last week’s Region IV meet held Nov. 2 in San Antonio and has qualified as a team for the state finals. The championship was the Harper girls’ second regional crown in the last two years.

Meanwhile, the Harper boys finished in fourth place in San Antonio, just missing out on a trip to Round Rock. However, the Longhorns’ Micah Middleton, who came in sixth with a time of 16:54, will run as an individual contestant at Saturday’s meet.

The Harper girls will run at 9 a.m., with Middleton scheduled to start at 9:20 a.m.
