By Danny Hirt —
Harper had a successful run in the Wednesday, Oct. 23 District 19-1A cross country meet held on its own course, winning four of the six team championships up for grabs.
Both varsity teams — girls and boys — came out on top, while the junior varsity and junior high school boys squads also earned the number one spot.
The Longhorns also captured second place in the other two events — junior varsity girls and junior high girls.
Sydney Collins was the top runner for Harper in the varsity girls’ competition, capturing second place in a time of 12:57. For the varsity boys, Micah Middleton also finished in the second spot, running the course in 18:46.
On the junior varsity level, Harper had the fastest runners in both the girls and boys categories. MiKinna Richards ran a time of 14:11 for the girls, while Christian Abbott took first in the boys’ side with a time of 20:33.
The two varsity high school teams have now qualified for the Region IV championships slated for Saturday, Nov. 2, in San Antonio.
The Harper girls will compete at 9 a.m., followed by the Harper boys at 9:20 a.m.
