Billies to face Wimberley on road Friday
By Matt Ward —
Records don’t matter to Fredericksburg High School varsity football coach Lance Moffett.
At least not when it comes to the Wimberley Texans.
“They have a great program, they’re two years removed from winning the state championship and I don’t care about their record,” Moffett said Monday. “They’re 3-5, but that has no bearing on this football game. They have the potential to be a great football team, they haven’t necessarily shown it this year, but they might show it this week.”
The Billies, who sit at 7-1 (3-0), visit the 3-5 (1-2) Texans Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in a game that could lock up a District 27-3A championship for FHS after the 33rd ranked team in Class 3A defeated 18th ranked Geronimo Navarro 31-29 on the road last week to clinch their first playoff berth since 2007.
“(Focus) is not an issue because it’s Wimberley and it’s not an issue because we haven’t been here before,” Moffett said. “We’ve been on the whipping end of Wimberley, Navarro, Boerne and Canyon Lake, so it’s not an issue. We’re not going to have to get up for them.”
Two years removed from a state championship, the Texans have struggled this season under first-year head coach Doug Warren, who took over at Wimberley after longtime Texan coach Weldon Nelms was hired at Weatherford.
