Volleyball falls to second-ranked Wimberley
By Matt Ward —
With a road win over Geronimo Navarro on Friday, the Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball team can clinch second place in District 27-3A after the Billies split a pair of games last week.
FHS will travel to Navarro for a 6 p.m. match Friday before hosting Canyon Lake for Senior Night Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Last night, the 23rd-ranked Billies fell to second-ranked Wimberley 24-26, 19-25, 17-25 after taking a 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-15 win over Boerne Friday evening.
“For the last six years we’ve been blessed with really balanced teams with lots of good players and this team is no different,” Roemer said. “It’s no secret this year we are going to set the middle’s every chance we get and teams are going to set their defenses accordingly, especially the second half of the district race.”
“We have weapons to score all across the net and we are going to have to get production from each position to achieve that balance in order to put pressure on the other team’s defense,” he added.
Loss to Wimberley
Facing their biggest rival in the state’s second-ranked volleyball program, the Billies fell in three sets at home to Wimberley 24-26, 19-25, 17-25 Tuesday night.
“I feel like we gave the district championship away,” Roemer said after the game Tuesday. “We made too many errors with 41 attack, serving and passing errors to their 16. That’s the difference. We out hit them and out dug them on defense, but we lost the serving and passing war. They served better and passed the ball better in serve receive.”
