Runners advance to regional competition
By Richard Zowie —
Fredericksburg High School cross country runners competed this morning, Oct. 23, at the District 27-3A Meet at Bandera City Park.
The varsity boys, varsity girls and JV girls all finished second at district, while the JV boys finished first.
Complete results from today’s meet will be in next week’s Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post.
Head coach Dan Aldrich described the district competition as “tough” in each division.
Only the top three varsity teams in each division today will advance to the Nov. 2 Region IV-3A meet at the University of Texas-San Antonio. The top 10 individuals will also advance to the regional meet, regardless of team results.
At regionals, the 3A girls will run at 10:40 a.m. while the 3A boys will run at 11:10 a.m.
Aldrich expected FHS to be at full strength on the girls side while, on the boys side, there are a few runners still working on getting completely healthy.
Weather prevented the Billies from competing in the Oct. 16 pre-district dual meet against Kerrville Tivy and Harper.
“As a team, we took a rest day and then adjusted our workouts with two high intensity runs on Thursday and Friday,” Aldrich said. “This past weekend we did recovery runs, followed by short meet prep workouts on Monday and Tuesday.”
