Daily Update for Tuesday, Oct. 22


  • Fredericksburg City Council on Monday night held the second public hearing on Stone Ridge Unit 8, and will meet in special session the second week in November to begin the annexation process for the 33-lot section. Additionally, the council passed an ordinance confirming the 2013-2014 budget and approved the 2013 tax levy totals as calculated by Gillespie County Tax Assessor-Collector Marissa Weinheimer.
  • More than 30 senior care and service providers are expected to be on hand today for the  Fall Harvest Senior Health Fair at the First Baptist Church. The education and health screening event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Lamb and goat validation for Gillespie County exhibitors will take place today in Harper from 4-6 p.m. at the Show Barn.
  • The Fredericksburg community is invited to join in a supper and study beginning tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Ann Hoch will lead a conversation on the book, “The Heart of Christianity: How We Can Be Passionate Believers Today,” by Marcus J. Borg.
  • Stonewall Heritage Society will gather tonight at 6 p.m. at the Gillespie County Historical Society. Glen Treibs will talk about Lyndon B. Johnson’s Baines family and where they lived in Fredericksburg.


  • Fredericksburg High School volleyball teams are hosting Wimberley tonight in the FHS Gym as well as celebrating Teacher Appreciation Night. The freshmen play at 5 p.m., the JV at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.
  • Harper volleyball teams are hosting Utopia tonight in the Harper Gyms. The JV Green plays  at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.
  • St. Mary's volleyball will be hosting Mt. Sacred Heart this afternoon starting at 5:30 p.m. with the B game.
