Volleyball improves to 5-1 in district
By Matt Ward —
With a pair of victories last week, the 21st-ranked Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball team improved to 5-1 in district play before back-to-back home games this week.
FHS jumped 10 spots in Class 3A rankings in the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association poll, up from 31st last week.
Last night, the Billies defeated Bandera, in a road game, 25-14, 17-25, 25-18, 25-14, after sweeping Canyon Lake 25-23, 25-14, 25-22 on the road Friday night.
FHS will host Boerne Friday at 6 p.m. before playing host to second-ranked Wimberley Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
“Our kids are not satisfied with being 5-1 at this point in the season,” Fredericksburg head coach Jason Roemer said. “We have a tough week in front of us and we all know that Boerne is going to be gunning for us after we walked out of their gym two weeks ago with a five set win.”
“We need a win to keep pace with Wimberley. It’s always an entertaining match when we play them and we are going to need a huge fan base in our gym on Friday,” he added. “We have put ourselves right in the middle of the district championship race once again. Last time it was like a championship boxing match and we are expecting nothing different on Friday.”
