Cross country to run at district meet Oct. 23
By Richard Zowie —
Even with what Fredericksburg High School cross country coach Dan Aldrich described as a tough upcoming district battle for his team, chances are he found some encouragement from the team’s final regular-season meet of the year.
At the Thursday, Oct. 10 Lampasas Cross Country Invitational, FHS had seven total top-15 finishers in both varsity (including Clarissa Sanchez’ first-place finish in girls varsity). In junior varsity, nine runners finished in the top 15.
Those who finished in the top 15 earned medals.
The Billies also had two overall first-place finishes (varsity girls and JV Red boys) and two second-place finishes (JV girls and varsity boys).
For Fredericksburg, its lowest-finishing team was the JV White boys, which took fourth.
“Our main goal [at Lampasas] was to find out who would be running as the varsity groups at the district meet in two weeks,” Aldrich said. “After our results, that picture is clearer and the final decisions will be made mid-week next week as we finish our regular season workouts.”
FHS’ next cross country event will be a pre-district tri-meet in Harper at 4:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 16, against Harper and Kerrville Tivy. There won’t be any medals or team results, just three schools getting together to practice and, as Aldrich put it, “continue to build community relationships between our cross country programs.”
