Boerne stands between FHS and football playoffs
By Matt Ward —
The last time the Fredericksburg High School varsity football team earned a playoff berth in 2007, they defeated the Boerne Greyhounds at home to do it.
On Friday, Fredericksburg can nearly lock up their first postseason appearance in six years with a win over their longtime rival as the Billies host the Greyhounds, Friday at 7:30 p.m., at FHS Stadium.
FHS will also host the rescheduled Parents’ Night recognition ceremony prior to kickoff Friday. Parents are asked to arrive at the west end of the stadium at 6:35 p.m., with the ceremony to begin at 6:45 p.m.
Additionally, Friday’s game will also serve as Youth Football Night.
Greyhounds have Billies’ full attention
For weeks, Fredericksburg head coach Lance Moffett has preached about how the Billies’ first two District 27-3A games against Canyon Lake and Boerne must be treated like playoff games.
“We are in control right now. If we win Friday night, we are in the playoffs. I don’t see any way we couldn’t be,” Moffett said. “It doesn’t take much for our kids to get excited about playing Boerne. I think Boerne has clearly become our biggest rival in regard to the whole hometown rivalry thing in any sport. When we play them, our fans go at it, it’s intense.”
