By Matt Ward —
Notching another big win against state-ranked competition, the Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball team rallied to defeat 18th-ranked Geronimo Navarro 25-14, 18-25, 19-25, 25-9, 15-9 Tuesday night at home.
On Friday, FHS (18-17, 3-1 district) fell in five sets at third ranked Wimberley 24-26, 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 10-15.
Fredericksburg — currently ranked 31st in Class 3A by the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association — will travel to Canyon Lake for a 6 p.m. contest at Mountain Valley Middle School Friday evening, before travelling to Bandera Tuesday at 7 p.m.
“We are playing really good volleyball right now. The team has come together and continues to play our best volleyball of the season each time out,” Fredericksburg head coach Jason Roemer said.
“We made it through the state ranked portion of our first round of district play with a 2-1 record,” he added. “Realistically, we could be undefeated in district right now or we could be winless. That’s how close and tight our district competition is. I like the way we are playing, and I like the direction we are headed.”
Win over Navarro
Defeating the 18th ranked Class 3A volleyball team at home, the Billies rallied back for a 25-15, 18-25, 19-25, 25-9, 15-9 win over Geronimo Navarro Tuesday.
“Every team in this district is so tough,” Roemer said. “We have to learn not to take any points off.”
