Harper volleyball ranked ninth in state

With two more victories under its collective belt, the Harper High School varsity volleyball team rose to the number nine spot in the Texas Girls Coaches Association state Class 1A poll.
Following Friday’s three-game victory at Utopia (26-24, 25-14, 25-11), the Ladyhorns returned to their home court to shut down Junction last night (Tuesday, Oct. 8) by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-17.
Harper will be at home for its next two matches, starting with Friday’s action against Medina (the JV game starts at 4 p.m., with the schools’ varsity teams facing off at 5 p.m.).
From there, Center Point comes to town on Tuesday, Oct. 15, with the Harper “White” JVs playing at 5 p.m. the “Green” JVs at 6 p.m., and ending with the varsity match at 7 p.m.
Win over Junction
After losing the first game by three points — 22-25 — the Ladyhorns stormed back to win the next three contests (25-19, 25-15, 25-17) and take Tuesday night’s district match over the visiting Junction Eagles.
Sarah Whitten led the Harper defense with 27 blocks, while teammates Courtney Ahrns and Logan White recorded 23 and 20 blocks, respectively. Macie Lumpkins and Payton Reid kicked in 12 digs apiece.
Lumpkins also registered 28 assists in the match.
With last night’s victory, the Ladyhorns ran their season record to 24-6 (3-0 in league play).
