Volleyball to open district play Friday
By Matt Ward —
With their non-district season behind them, the 24th ranked Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball team will not have it any easier as they head into District 27-3A play, where three other state-ranked teams await them.
Fredericksburg will open district play at home Friday evening at 5 p.m. against Bandera as part of the Billies’ homecoming activities. FHS will then travel to 12th ranked Boerne Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
Last night, Fredericksburg fell to 5A Smithson Valley 9-25, 17-25, 25-22, 21-25 after losing Friday to 5A New Braunfels Canyon 16-25, 10-25, 22-25.
“It’s going to be a war each and every night for the next five weeks. Our kids are ready to see where we stand,” FHS head coach Jason Roemer said. “There’s not a night off. The district champion is going to be the team that plays the most consistent volleyball every night and the team that plays the best after scores of 20-20.
“We all have skilled players and it is going to come down to which team can play better every night,” Roemer added. “I like our chances. We have a close knit team that’s ready to go to war and compete. They know it’s going to be close games and what we have to do to win. Everyone is 0-0 now and it’s time to focus on our district opponents and finding ways to win.”
