Harper volleyball defeats #6 Miles
By Danny Hirt —
Harper took a big step in jumping higher in the Top 10 listings for Class 1A volleyball teams by beating the sixth ranked school, Miles, in five games Tuesday evening on the road.
The Ladyhorns had been put in 10th place in the rankings computed by the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA). Last night’s win, combined with Friday’s five-game win at Sonora should move Harper up at least a couple of notches.
After being edged 27-29 in the first game Tuesday, Harper battled back to take the second contest 25-18. But after dropping Game Three 17-25, the Ladyhorns fought back to take the next two by scores of 25-21 and 15-9.
In Friday’s action, Harper topped Sonora in five games (25-18, 21-25, 24-26, 25-19 and 15-1).
The Ladyhorns will open their district season when they travel to Center Point on Friday. The “White” junior varsity contest begins at 4 p.m., followed by the “Green” JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity action at 6 p.m.
League action continues Tuesday when Harper travels to Leakey for a 6 p.m. varsity match. The schools’ junior varsity teams square off at 5 p.m.
