Daily Update for Tuesday, Sept. 17

News

  • The Fredericksburg City Council approved its 2013-2014 budget Monday evening by a 3-2 vote with Councilmen Tim Dooley and Gary Neffendorf opposed as the budget will not be balanced for the electric, solid waste and drainage funds. Additionally, the council approved the effective tax rate of 26 cents per $100 valuation and okayed utility rate increases effective Oct. 1.
  • Auditions continue this evening for the Fredericksburg Theater Company's next production, "Sanders Family Christmas." The auditions will begin at 7 p.m. at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater.
  • Hill Country CattleWomen are meeting this morning at the Welfare Cafe in Welfare starting at 10 a.m.
  • Fredericksburg Independent School District Community Education will offer a "Basic Dog Obedience" class starting tonight from 6-7 p.m. at Marktplatz. Classes will continue on Tuesday nights through Oct. 22.
  • Gillespie County A&M Club is meeting tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Craig's Charlie’s Grill & Golf for dominoes. Any former student, spouse or friend is invited to attend.
  • Cub Scout Pack 135 is hosting a Join Scouting Night tonight starting at 6 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Elementary School.

Sports

  • Fredericksburg High School volleyball teams will be on the road tonight to Burnet where the JV and freshmen play at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity at 6:30 p.m.
  • Fredericksburg High School varsity and JV tennis teams will be hosting Kerrville Tivy today starting at 4 p.m.
  • The Harper volleyball teams will be traveling to Ingram tonight. The JV Green and JV White play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.
  • Heritage varsity volleyball will be on the road to play Our Lady of the Hills at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
  • The St. Mary's volleyball teams will be hosting Holy Cross this afternoon in the SMS Gym. The B game is first at 5 p.m.
