Netters 3-0 Early In Season
Undefeated in University Interscholastic League (UIL) district play, the Fredericksburg High School varsity tennis team shut out Bandera, 10-0, yesterday, Sept. 10, at the mid-site in Kerrville.
The win, added with the Billie netters’ recent weekend victories over Wimberley (10-1) and Boerne High School (10-0), puts the squad at 3-0 in loop play.
Next, the squad heads this Saturday, Sept. 14, for a non-district double-header against Schertz Steele and Schertz Clemens at those respective schools.
Then, on Tuesday, Sept. 17, the team will remain home to host neighboring Kerrville Tivy in a 4 p.m. contest on the courts at the FHS campus. (The junior varsity will also host Tivy’s counterparts at the same time, but on courts in Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.)
After those encounters, the varsity Billies have 10 remaining meets on the regular season — two of which will round out the district rotation. Those will be against Navarro on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 9 a.m. at San Marcos High School and one against Canyon Lake on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Canyon Lake High School.
Now that team tennis has fallen under the auspices of UIL, the fall team tennis will both start and conclude in the fall season. The regional tourney is planned Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2, at a location as yet to be determined, while the state finals are planned Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9, in Abilene.
