Harper football wins over Eldorado

By Danny Hirt —

After spotting host Eldorado a touchdown in the first quarter, Harper fought back with a pair of scores in the second and two more in the fourth to capture a 27-6 victory Friday night in varsity football action.

The Longhorns (2-0) will open their home portion of the 2013 campaign Friday, Sept. 13, when Ingram Moore High School comes calling at 7:30 p.m.

For Harper, the game has been designated Parents’ Night.

In last week’s contest, the host Eagles took a short-lived lead with 4:40 remaining in the first when Tres Whitten zipped through the Longhorn defense on a 32-yard run to the endzone.  The point-after kick was unsuccessful, leaving Eldorado up 6-0.

But it didn’t take Harper long to take the lead when Easton Hansen bulled his way over the goal line from four yards out early in the second period. Briley Jalowy added the extra point to put the ’Horns up by a point (7-6).

Seven minutes later, as the bands were preparing for their halftime performances, Harper quarterback Gus Sagraves fired an aerial to Braydon Hagendorf who then took it the rest of the way for a touchdown on a 21-yard pass play. The PAT was good, giving Harper a 14-6 advantage by intermission.

Two fourth quarter runs of four and three yards, respectively, by Jaydon Baumann put HHS up by a 27-6 margin. For the night, Bauman rushed for 116 yards on 19 carries. In addition, Jalowy added another 87 ground yards on 14 attempts.
