FHS football defeats Memorial 57-14
By Matt Ward —
By the time the Memorial offense took the field for their first snap of Friday’s game against the Fredericksburg High School varsity football team, the Minutemen already trailed 10-0.
When the dust finally settled at Mata Stadium in San Antonio, FHS prevailed in a dominant 57-14 road victory.
“It’s fun when you score 57 points. I was proud of our kids in regard to that we started the game well and we ended the game well,” FHS head coach Lance Moffett said. “We’ve got lots to work on still. I’m real proud of the kids for sticking the throttle down and playing the game the right way, the way we coached them to play.”
Off to the races
Fredericksburg scored on each of its first three possessions as Kyle Grona broke free for a 31-yard touchdown on the Billies’ opening drive.
On the ensuing kickoff, Memorial fumbled the ball with FHS recovering to set up a 37-yard field goal by Gustavo Ortiz.
After the next Minutemen possession ended with a botched snap, the Billies took possession at the Memorial one and scored the next play on a one-yard TD dive by Paco Martinez.
