Inside the coaches’ “war room” at Fredericksburg High School, there is an entire board covered in offensive formations and schemes for FHS head varsity football coach Lance Moffett and his staff to decipher a game plan as the Billies prepare for a 7:30 p.m. road game at Brady Friday.

“Going off the film we have, they (the Bulldogs) line up in 27-30 different formations,” Moffett said. “They run the same five or six plays, but out of 27-30 different looks. (Defensive coordinator Bill) Wilder has got his work cut out for him this week.”

Brady utilizes the run-first Slot-T offense, with the added wrinkle of having the quarterback run the offense out of the shotgun formation, giving Bulldog quarterback Joe Scott Pace extra options on each snap.

“The thing they’re trying to force you to do is waste time in practice getting lined up. They kill you with formations,” Moffett said. “We better line up the same way for most of it. There’s just little subtle differences in most formations. We’ve got to have a guy in every gap.”
