After posting two solid wins over competitors in the past week, Fredericksburg High School’s varsity netters are due to host two more in its first district double-header this Saturday, Sept. 7.

The Billies will serve up 8 a.m. matches against Wimberley and 1 p.m. matches against Boerne on their home courts in this first team tennis season under the auspices of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) after it has been transferred from the care of the Texas Tennis Coaches Association.

After Saturday, FHS will load up and head to the HEB Tennis Center in Kerrville for a 4 p.m. match against third district foe, Bandera, on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Yesterday, the Billies defeated Marble Falls’ Mustangs on home territory, 10-6 (12-7.)

“The match was closer than the score indicates,” said FHS Coach Randall King, adding that FHS had seven super-tie breaks to decide matches, of which it lost four and won three.

“Things could easily have swung the other way, but we showed great mental toughness on our part to close the match out,” King said.
