Harper Football Defeats Grape Creek 34-14

Despite giving up an early touchdown on a blocked punt to host Grape Creek, the Harper Longhorns managed to take the lead in the second period on the strength of two Jayden Baumann TD runs on the way to a 34-14 win Friday night in San Angelo.

The game was the first football contest of the regular season for both schools.

Harper remains on the road this Friday when it travels to Eldorado for a 7:30 p.m. non-district encounter.

Trailing 8-0 early in the second period, the Longhorns closed the gap with Baumann’s 19-yard run. Briley Jalowy’s point-after kick made the score 8-7 in favor of the hosts. Jalowy connected on all four extra-point kicks as well as nailing field goals of 27 and 35 yards.

For the game, Baumann gained 66 yards on 10 carries, scoring two touchdowns in the process. Meanwhile, Jalowy topped the 100-yard rushing mark with 102 yards on 15 carries and a TD.
