FHS Football Falls To Burnet 40-27
By Matt Ward —
“We just needed a little more time.”
Friday night’s season opening loss to Burnet 40-27 is probably the only time Fredericksburg High School head football coach Lance Moffett would have liked a fifth quarter of varsity football.
After working off first-game jitters for many brand new varsity players, the Billies began a comeback the FHS head coach believes could have been pulled off with more time.
“We had them on the hook and we let them off,” Moffett said. “There are a lot of things that we could have done better or differently to put ourselves in the position to be the team that was ahead in the end.”
Two quick touchdown strikes for Burnet proved to be the difference in the contest.
Bulldog quarterback Derek Kizer hit Blayne Parisher for a 71-yard TD pass to give Burnet a 20-point lead before halftime with the final blow — a 31-yard TD pass from Kizer to Cody Jones — coming on a fourth and nine with just 17 seconds left in the contest.
“We lost by 13 (points) and we gave them 13 on those two plays,” Moffett said.
