Council OKs original park pool plan, costs
By Matt Ward —
City voters will get the design they approved last May for renovations at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park Pool, though the final total will end up $575,000-$600,000 over the $1.6 million construction budget.
During their regular meeting Monday, Fredericksburg city council members approved exceeding budget for the project by a 4-1 vote with Councilman Graham Pearson opposed.
“I am not in favor of overriding the vote of the people on a new pool,” Fredericksburg Mayor Jeryl Hoover said. “I would opt to provide the pool that they thought they were getting at the price it’s going to cost.”
Financing the difference between project cost and the current budget is expected to come in the form of a limited tax note with approximately one percent interest. The council will approve the issuance of the note at a future meeting.
