Harper cross country to open season Saturday
By Danny Hirt —
With the Harper High School cross country schedule opening up Saturday in San Angelo at the annual “ASU Stampede” event held on the campus of Angelo State University, head coach Will Reid knows his teams will provide a mixed bag on the season.
There’ll be a lot of experience on the girls’ side (six of seven members of last year’s state UIL 1A runner-up team that also captured a district title) while the boys’ squad has only one senior but plenty of “state experience,” as the coach calls it.
The “problem” with the half-dozen returning girls is that his 2012 number one runner, Crystal Schlueter, has graduated and is now running for Angelo State University. But the remaining girls from last year — seniors Kayla Inmon, Taylor Reid and Hope Dillon, juniors Sydney Collins, and sophomores Rebekah Lester and Payton Reid — give Coach Reid reason to be optimistic.
“We will look for one of those to take over that number one position,” he said.
Others who may provide an impact for the Ladyhorns team include Rachel Maner, Emily Richards, Kristen Harper and Mackenzie Kramer.
