Daily Update for Tuesday, Sept. 3

News

  • Gillespie County Commissioners will hold the second of two public hearings on a proposed local property tax increase of 21 percent — most of which is to cover jail bond costs — tonight at 5:20 p.m. at the Gillespie County Courthouse. The county’s budget hearing will immediately follow this hearing.
  • Fredericksburg City Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Gillespie County Law Enforcement Center. The agenda includes a discussion on the options for the reconstruction of the Park Pool, a review of a revised transportation code and consideration of filming guidelines.
  • For those who would like to improve their English language skills or prepare for the path to U.S. citizenship, classes will be offered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall. Registration for the English classes will be today at the parish hall.  Classes are offered Tuesday mornings from 9-10:30 a.m. and Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m.

Sports

  • Fredericksburg High School varsity football lost its season opener on Friday night to Burnet, 40-27.
  • The FHS volleyball teams will be on the road to Llano tonight where the freshmen and JV teams will both play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m. Playing in the Smithson Valley Tournament Thursday through Saturday, the varsity volleyball team went 2-6.
  • The FHS varsity tennis team is hosting Marble Falls today at 4 p.m. Last Thursday, the varsity tennis team defeated Dripping Springs, 10-1.
  • Harper varsity football defeated San Angelo Grape Creek, 34-14, on Friday night to open its season.
  • The Harper volleyball teams will be on the road to Johnson City tonight where the JV Green plays at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m. Harper varsity volleyball went 5-1 in the Comfort Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
  • Heritage varsity football defeated San Antonio Atonement, 52-7, on Friday night.
  • Heritage varsity volleyball will travel to Hill Country Christian School in San Marcos for a 6:30 p.m. game tonight.
