Bulldogs pose first challenge for Billie football
By Matt Ward —
The wait is almost over.
With more than nine months of off-season workouts, summer camps, two scrimmages and fall practices behind them, regular season action kicks off for the Fredericksburg High School varsity football team Friday evening as the Billies host the Burnet Bulldogs at FHS Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
“I think people are very optimistic about what’s going to happen with our team this year,” FHS head coach Lance Moffett said Monday. “We’ve got to step up and show them what we’re about.
On game day, Moffett will discuss the regular season opener against Burnet during “Coffee with Coach,” a live radio show recorded at 10 a.m. at Barefoot, located at 108 East Main Street #1.
In their final preseason warm up, the Billies hit the road for a “very positive scrimmage” against Lago Vista, Moffett said.
“It was positive in regard to the fact that we actually scored and had some positive plays,” he added.
The head coach noted that his team came out with more intensity and fire in the scrimmage Thursday than last week’s “disappointing” home scrimmage against Medina Valley.
Fredericksburg’s change in passion and intensity between the two scrimmages mirrored the difference in play between halves of last year’s opening game loss at Burnet, which saw the Billies trail by 20 points at halftime, only to score 21 unanswered points to take a lead before falling 26-21.
