Cross country to open season Saturday
By Richard Zowie
The cross country season begins in three days for Fredericksburg High School, and head coach Dan Aldrich is working to get the team ready for competition.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, Fredericksburg will compete in the Key to the Hills Invitational at Boerne City Park. Then, following an Aug. 31 Picnic Run that will be a workout and not an actual race, the Billies will compete Sept. 7 at Marble Falls.
Aldrich described the first two weeks of workouts as “very productive” and added that while some on the team did not log in their summer mileage in preparation of the season, they should be able to slowly catch up in the upcoming month.
The Billie cross country runners have been practicing, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the past two weeks and now are transitioning to 4-6:30 p.m. workouts.
“It will be a little warmer at this time, but as long as the team stays hydrated and gets the proper rest, we will all acclimate to the new time without a problem,” Aldrich said.
