Abi Arias signs with pro soccer team
By Lisa Treiber-Walter —
Former Fredericksburg High School (FHS) star soccer player Abi Arias has gone pro.
The forward striker signed Monday, Aug. 19, to play for the Houston Hurricanes FC, which opens its National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season today, Aug. 21, with a pre-season bout against Houston Dynamo at 7 p.m. in Dow Park, 709 East P Street in Deer Park.
The move comes after a weekend of tryouts for the Hurricanes.
“I invited Abi out last year, but for some reason or another, he didn’t make it out,” Hurricanes Head Coach Brendan Keyes said Monday.
“He showed up to last night’s final tryout and, after 10 minutes, I knew I wanted him on my team. He has great qualities and is exactly what we are looking for in a striker. He banged in five goals last night from all angles and distances,” Keyes said.
“God is great,” Arias said Tuesday. “After more hard work, I was offered to sign with the Houston Hurricanes, the second biggest club in Houston. Things keep on getting better. Thanks to all of you for the support.”
