Daily Update for Tuesday, Aug. 20


  • Fredericksburg City Council met in special session on Monday to discuss proposed utiiity rate increases including an 11 percent increase in water, a 15.4 percent increase in wastewater and 4 percent increase in electric rates starting Oct. 1. The council is expected to officially approve the rates at its Sept. 16 meeting.
  • Meeting in regular session on Monday, the city council held a public hearing on the proposed budget. No public comments were made concerning the budget. The council approved accepting the Effective Tax Rate at $0.2600 per $100 valuation, which is a decrease of $0.0047 cents per $100 valuation.
  • A special meeting of the Fredericksburg City Council will be held today at noon in the City Hall Conference Room to discuss the park pool project.
  • Central Texas Electric Cooperative will hold its annual membership meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Fredericksburg High School Auditorium. Registration begins at 6 p.m.
  • Fredericksburg Independent School District Community Education will host an "Intermediate Excel" class starting today and continuing through Thursday. The class takes place from 9-11 a.m. at Fredericksburg Elementary School.
  • "Quickbooks for Beginners" will be offered by the FISD Community Education starting today and continuing through Thursday. Set for the Fredericksburg Elementary School, the class will be held from 6-8 p.m.
  • "Jesus In the Old Testament" is the program topic for a class at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Faith Baptist Church.


  • Parents of Fredericksburg High School tennis players are asked to meet with the coaches tonight at 6 p.m. (after varsity practice) at the FHS Courts.
  • Fredericksburg High School volleyball teams will be on the road to La Vernia tonight for three games. The freshmen and JV play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.
  • The Harper volleyball teams will be hosting Ingram tonight in the Harper Gym. The JV White plays at 5 p.m., the JV green at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.
