Daily Update for Tuesday, August 13


  • Gillespie County Commissioners on Monday voted unanimously to change juror pay rates starting Oct. 1. In other action, commissioners heard from a local woman urging them to move forward on an alternate truck route stating that constructing one could alleviate heavy 18-wheeled traffic from the downtown district and prevent accidents such as the one in which she was involved in.
  • Fredericksburg Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday night agreed to modify the drug education program to strengthen punishments and increase the frequency of testing. They reviewed state accountability scores in which the district performed well above average.
  • Auditions continue tonight at 7 p.m. for the Fredericksburg Theater Company's next production, "The Miracle Worker." The auditions will take place at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater.
  • Day Camp for incoming sixth graders at the Fredericksburg Middle School is taking place through noon today in the FMS cafeteria.
  • A new member orientation for anyone interested in the Gillespie County 4-H program will be held tonight starting at 6 p.m. at the Gillespie County Extension Building.


  • A new season begins today for the Fredericksburg High School tennis teams. All returning players, incoming freshman and transfer students reported at 7 a.m. to the FHS tennis courts for the first day of drills.
  • The Fredericksburg High School varsity volleyball team opened its season on Monday night by defeating Harper, 25-8, 13-25, 25-19, 31-33, 15-13, in the friendly rivalry dubbed the “Battle of Gillespie County.”
  • The FHS volleyball teams will be on the road to Marble Falls tonight for games beginning at 5 p.m.
  • Harper volleyball teams are on the road to Brackett today to play Brackett/Del Rio beginning at 1 p.m.
