Tax-free weekend to help shoppers save

Shoppers will receive a brief respite from the state sales tax on select items this weekend, Friday through Sunday, Aug. 9-11.

The sales tax will not be applied to most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100.

During the holiday, shoppers can save about $8 for every $100 they spend.

Shoppers are expect to save an estimated $78.9 million in state and local taxes during the holiday.
