Netters swing into preseason Tuesday

By Austin Eck

The new tennis season will begin as the Fredericksburg High School tennis players report for the first day of practice.

All returning players, incoming freshman and transfer students need to be present at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the FHS tennis courts for the first day of drills.

Before participating in practice, all students need to have the appropriate paperwork on file at the athletic office.

Players need to show up with “a racket and a good attitude,” said tennis head coach Randall King.

The tennis team has one week to practice before they begin match play against O’Connor High School on Aug. 21.

For the first time in five years, team tennis will be held in the fall rather than mid-way through spring.

“We are actually working toward a playoff appearance in the fall,” said King. “Now, our practices and matches have a little more value.”
