Horse racing on tap this weekend
Live pari-mutuel horse racing returns to the five-eighths mile oval at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11.
Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the two-day Gillespie County Race Meet will again see quarter horses and thoroughbreds running at the local Class III facility.
Gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m. both days.
Admission to the races is $5 for adults, $3 for children six to 15 years and free for children under six.
Box seats are available for $9 each.
The Gillespie County Race Meet is the third of four racing weekends scheduled at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds this summer.
And after this weekend, only two more days remain on the 2013 season on Aug. 24-25 as part of the 125th Gillespie County Fair (Aug. 22-25).
Also taking place over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds will be three livestock competitions.
