Dr Pepper Open a hit with players

Over 100 players participated in the 28th Annual Junior Dr Pepper — Babolat Open Tennis Tournament held at Fredericksburg High School and Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park Friday through Sunday.
Young local players joined competitors from across the state in boys’ singles, girls’ singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ doubles and mixed doubles.
“We had a good turnout for the annual tourney, Fredericksburg High School tennis coach Randall King said. “Many Fredericksburg kids did very well. This tourney has always drawn mostly area towns and a few kids travel to get here.”
Jack Rochat of Hondo won all three divisions he competed in (U18 boys’ singles, U18 boys’ doubles and mixed doubles).
Fredericksburg’s Grace Igarta won two divisions (U16-18 girls’ doubles and mixed doubles), while finishing third in U16-18 girls’ singles.
King, who coordinates the event each year on behalf of the hosting Fredericksburg Tennis Association, added that the adult Dr Pepper Open will be held in October.

Fredericksburg athletes took home medals in several divisions over the weekend, including six first places, three second places and 10 third places, as follows:
•A third place by Katherine Peet in the U12 girls’ singles division;
•A first place by Abby Peet and a third place by Carlie Crenwelge in the U14 girls’ singles division;
•A first place by Hannah Boubel and a third place by Grace Igarta in the U16-18 girls’ singles division;
•A third place by Blake Boubel in the U12 boys’ singles division;
•A second place by Kaston Hawkins and a third place by Broque Constantine in the U14 boys’ singles division;
•A first place by Callen Hein and a second place by Hayden Keller in the U16 boys’ singles division;
•A third place by Sitman Wainwright in the U18 boys’ singles division;
•A third place by Jacie Spies and Avery Stephens in the U12 girls’ doubles division;
•A second place by Caitlyn Halford and Carlie Crenwelge and a third place by Mandy Yocham and Carli Cole in the U14 girls’ doubles division;
•A first place by Daisha Duke and Grace Igarta in the U18 girls’ doubles division;
•A first place by Blake Boubel (and partner Rudy Rochat of Hondo) and a third place by Thomas Wainwright and Jarris Hawkins in the U12 boys’ doubles division; and,
•A first place by Grace Igarta (and partner Jack Rochat of Hondo) and a third place by Hannah Boubel (and partner Pete Rochat of Hondo) in the U18 mixed doubles division.
