Volkaert tunes up for PCAA
Fredericksburg’s downtown square will play host to Grammy Award-winning guitarist Redd Volkaert this Sunday, July 28.
The free, open-air performance by the renowned Austin-based musician will be the second-to-last “Concert In The Park” in the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance (PCAA) summer series.
Music fans are invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets or arrive early to claim some of the limited picnic table seating at the Adelsverein Halle, the largest pavilion on Marktplatz.
The free admission concert will start at 6:30 p.m. and last until around 8 p.m. Dancing is encouraged, as are picnic suppers.
A life-long musician, Volkaert once gained his most fame as the lead picker for Merle Haggard & the Strangers.
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, he was an in-demand studio musician in Los Angeles and Nashville before moving to Austin in 2000.
He’s recorded two internationally-distributed solo projects for Hightone Records out of Oakland, Calif., and often performs with steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar.
