Fundraiser set at Hondo's for WWII veterans' trip
Over 200 World War II veterans call Gillespie County home, and Honor Flight Austin is trying to provide them with a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II monument free of cost.
To help raise funds for the Honor Flight, a fundraiser will be held 6-10 p.m., Aug. 1 at Hondo’s on Main Street.
“Our immediate need is to raise the required $40,000 for this community Honor Flight trip,” said Tami King, Gillespie County Veterans Service Officer.
During the fundraiser, local musicians will take to the stage and play to help raise money.
The night will honor the service of World War II veterans, and a few local veterans will speak on their World War II service.
There is no cover charge for the event.
“Each $1,000 sponsorship will provide a World War II veteran with airfare, all meals, hotel, bus rental and wheelchair rentals,” King said.
For additional information about the program, contact King at 830-997-3758. Donations may be dropped off at the Gillespie County Veterans Service Office, 102 E. San Antonio St., Suite B, Fredericksburg. Checks should be made out to Honor Flight Austin and identified as “Gillespie County Veterans.” Checks should be turned into King.
