Eddie Behrends wins shootoff to take annual Vorfest title
Despite a 45-minute rain delay, the Gillespie County Schuetzenbund’s Vorfest was hosted Sunday, July 20, by the Hubertus Shooting Club at the Bear Creek range.
Eddie Behrends won in a three-way shoot-off in the centerfire competition with a 58, defeating Willie Frantzen (56) and Leland Ottmers (50) after all three competitors shot a 58 in the regular event.
Top rimfire competitor was Sharon Enderlin, who recorded a score just four points back at 54.
Vorfest serves as a precursor to the county’s biggest shooting draw of the year — the 118th Annual Gillespie County Schuetzenfest — which will unite the county’s shooting clubs in competition on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3-4. The Hubertus Shooting Club will play host to this year’s event at the Bear Creek range.
