Gillespie County Commissioners took care of a “housekeeping” agenda on Monday morning, July 22.

Meeting at 9 a.m. in the courthouse, officials were advised by Lester Frantzen of the Frantzen, Kaderli & Klier Insurance agency in Fredericksburg about renewals of its current insurance policies.

Although facing a group medical policy premium hike of about five percent, commissioners opted to continue with current plans to offer county employees benefits similar to what they’ve been receiving as well as to maintain the policies’ “grandfathered” status while they “wait-and-see” the effects that will take place along with the implementation of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

Along with the group’s health insurance, commissioners approved continuation of prescription drug coverage through the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) — Health and Employee Benefits Pool (HEBP.)

Also approved Monday was continuation of the Gillespie County Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan (premium-deferred only,) with administration by AmeriFlex.
