Gillespie 4-Hers win honors at Texas Roundup

WINNING HONORS in the Fashion Show at the Texas 4-H Roundup at Texas A&M University last week were, from left, Amy Heimann, second in construction/specialty, and Rachel Howell, first in buying/casual.

Fourteen Gillespie County 4-Hers participated in the Texas 4-H Roundup June 10-14 at Texas A&M University.

The week began with the Scholarship Banquet on June 10 where over $2.2 million was awarded to 4-Hers from across the state.

Jacob Dittmar of Gillespie County was awarded $18,000 from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Lainey Bourgeois was awarded a $3,000 McLean scholarship.

The competitions began on June 11 with the Nutrition Quiz Bowl and the Beef Quiz Bowl.

Gillespie County’s Nutrition Quiz Bowl team of Myra Powell, Sean O’Leary and William Coale finished 10th out of 28 teams.

Also finishing in 10th was the Beef Quiz Bowl team from Gillespie County that included Mattie Lastovica, Elaine Lochte, Blake Tatsch and Kasie Vestal.

The Livestock Judging Contest, Meat Judging and Identification Contest and Fashion Show were held on June 12.

In the Fashion Show, Rachel Howell was first in the buying/casual category and Amy Heimann was second in construction/specialty cate­gory.

The Meats Judging team of Brant Crenwelge, Mason DeLong, Elaine Lochte and Blake Tatsch finished eighth out of 12 teams.

Finishing 11th out of 41 teams was the Gillespie County Livestock Judging team of Braden Bowers, Taylor Gamble, Mackenzie Spisak and Kasie Vestal.
