Betty Jean Lochte Von Minden, 78, of Spring, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

A memorial mass was held Monday, May 13, a 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Spring.

Interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Arrangements were under the direction of Klein Champions Funeral Home, Houston.

Mrs. Von Minden was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Ernst Lochte and Theresa Kunz Lochte. She married William A. (Bill) Von Minden in 1954 and he survives.

A 1952 St. Mary’s High School graduate, Mrs. Von Minden continued her education at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio.

In earlier years, she worked for an insurance company and the Federal Reserve Bank.

She was a past member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a Girl Scout leader and manned a USO office at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

She was also a certified CCE (religion) teacher, was active at her church and sang with the church choir for 30 years and was active with the PTA.

Mrs. Von Minden is survived by her husband, Bill; four daughters, Theresa, Barbara, Donna and Sarah; two sons-in-law, John and Greg; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

In addition to her first husband and parents, Mrs. Von Minden was preceded in death by her foster mother, Margaret Kunz (the aunt who raised her after her mother died); two sisters, Mary Lochte and Ruth Mae Thomas and her husband, William, and her in-laws, John and Christine Klein Von Minden.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
